How To Reduce Solar Power Costs

If you want to reduce your solar power costs then considering looking for salvaged, free or discounted solar panels. You might be surprised by how easy it is to get hold of them. Be aware that you pay for the quality you receive. If you’ve paid very little or nothing for a solar panel, there’s a good chance that it will turn out to be nowhere near the current standards and it may even be damaged or broken. To save money, you may need to educate yourself on solar panel installation. There is a good chance that many professionals will be reluctant to install a salvaged solar panel for you.

Step 1

You'll notice that most of the solar panels you see on a day to day basis, have a phone number on them. This is usually the telephone number of the organisation which owns it. Take note of the numbers as you see them on traffic lights, bus stops and other solar-powered structured. Solar panel companies own hundreds of solar panels, and they are contractually obliged to replace them at the first sign of cracking. Disposing of them can be costly, so they would much rather give them away. The offending crack or flaw will lower efficiency, but it shouldn’t stop the panel from working altogether. Make contact with the companies and find out if there are any of these panels available.

Step 2

Have a look at any offerings on Craigslist and your local Freecycle. Place your own online advertisement. There might be people upgrading their systems who are able to give you their old panels. The panels might be outdated, but should still work well enough for your purposes.

Step 3

Perfectly functional panels are often discarded by local solar panel manufacturers because they aren’t producing the right voltage, even if this discrepancy is off by as little as half a percent. The companies might be willing to give you the “useless” panels for free, and you’ll find them brand new and in good working order. You will have to take the initiative and contact them yourself.
